Uossa o mai – Now or Never

For almost twenty years, the artist duo Christina Hemauer and Roman Keller have been dealing with questions of the climate crisis and alternative energy production. In their exhibition at the Kunsthalle, they ask unusual questions that are of both global and local significance: What unreason gives power? Energy that does not create suffering? These are text excerpts from their Postpetrolist International, an anthem that will be performed anew with the Engadin choir Opera Engiadina as part of the exhibition. With their art, they search for energy-giving waste rituals as a sign of the dawn of a sustainable energy age.

Natural resources are almost exhausted, the climate crisis more urgent than ever before. Geopolitically, too, the consumption of fossil fuels raises moral and powerpolitical questions.

Instead of gruelling renunciation and ascetic reduction, Christina Hemauer and Roman Keller focus on pleasurable sustainability and the search for new joyful cultural
practices. They link social togetherness, such as that celebrated with the Hom Strom, a local fire custom in Scuol, with a panoramic view of the meteorological and
cultural history of the Engadine.

The exhibition takes place on three floors and includes video, photography and participatory-performative as well as installation elements. The duo is always looking
for inspiration and exchange between their own artistic practice and science. This dialogue will be taken as the occasion for a transdisciplinary conversation in the
planned programme of events.
