Enlightenment in the 20th Century

In order to both raise awareness of the dangers of modernity and to establish a code of conduct for an accelerated society, the artistic duo, in their multi-part installation reminiscent of documentaries, deal with the story of the increase in traffic and the respective measures taken by the authorities.

On an enlarged forensic photograph, the casualty of a traffic accident is lying on the ground. From today’s perspective, it is hard to comprehend how an accident could happen on such a quiet street. The picture and brochure both show how rapidly society must have adjusted to widespread technologically determined changes and the regulatory and educational role played in this process by the public authorities. The eyes wander beyond the edge of the picture directly onto a traffic-free Limmatquai (a street in Zurich) and to the there somewhat out-of-place seeming sign: «Zurich – security through politeness».
