In the beginning, to all those who might have borne witness, the sky was black, and the world was beset by nothingness.

Meteor showers bombard the new planet. The hot atmosphere is rich in CO2, and the sky glows yellow-brown. With the meteorites comes water, and from water springs life.

Time and again the emerging land masses coalesce and diverge. In the oceans blue algae propagate themselves in abundance using the light of the sun. This growth produces oxygen. The surrounding layer of cloud disperses. The sky turns blue.

For a long time life-forms simply remain on the Earth. At best, the unseeing creatures can only recognise darkness and light. […]
