In Switzerland, altitude information is omnipresent. They are used for orientation, monitoring sporting performance and location advertising and even have economic consequences for agriculture. This reference is no longer a fixed value, especially since it is known that we will raise the sea level by several metres in the coming centuries due to climate change. With their contribution to the Safiental Biennale (6.7. – 20.10.2024), the artist duo Christina Hemauer and Roman Keller want to put the changes in metres above sea level up for discussion. They will provide the Institute for Land and Environmental Art (Ilea) with a GNSS measuring device that will enable it to carry out precise altitude measurements over a long period of time, taking into account climate change and the elevation of the Alps.
